Cant find this puff of smoke 300tdi

    hello all,

Well its really starting to **** me off something shockin!!!!! everytime i start my D1 300tdi i get smoke coming from under the bonnet. Now i've gotten down on all fours and can notice a puff of smoke coming from under the passenger side just before the engine sump as soon as i start the engine.

is there any where else smoke fumes can escape other than the manifold or the down pipe off the turbo????? i just cant seem to find it.

    any help is appreciated.

    cheers simon

Flex joint in the downpipe would be my first guess.

Thanks for your response but its not coming from the down pipe at all. where the down pipe starts to bend coming from the turbo its in the above region, like its coming from the engine some where. things is i cant get to close other wise cop a full face of fumes lol.

could be several places it could be leaking from

    1) Exhaust Manifold sealing Gasket is worn

    2) Downpipe Studs are Loose and exhaust is pushing past the copper gasket.

    3) the Manifold studs are loose ?

Do what Ian did.....he said to me there was exhaust fumes coming from the down pipe and I couldn't feel it..

He went inside and came out with some soap water and gently splashed some over the pipe...and bugger me it caused a tiny spray and when it did it again it just bubbled from where the gas was escaping......it was only a small area but a great way of finding where the leak is
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
