    Headlight Failure

    Evening Fellas,

In need of some advice as far as the headlights on my 94 D1 pre-update

The wife not long went to drive the car then came back in an d asked if the headlights were alright, I went out and checked and... only working on parkers.

The highbeam works when the stick is pulled back as if you are flashing the lights but that is it.

Six or seven months ago I fitted Traxride's Headlight upgrade kit without any worries. Checked the fuses in the relays (Driving light upgrade kit installed as well) and also the fuses in the main box under the dash. All the fuses seem to be fine.

I have searched the forums but haven't found a similar case, especially with the relays alreday installed.

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers

    Kieren

I have a 97 update so I don't know if there is any difference and I also have both of the upgrade kits. About 6 months ago I had a similar problem (they had also been installed for about 6 months prior to the problem) but from memory my left side lights worked while the drivers side didn't. All the fuses were fine and after playing with relays it was found the relay didn't have any power on the output side (we confirmed this by hotwiring the relay and the lights worked). We put this down to dirt or something inside the relay which shouldn't happen as they are a sealed unit. I did this trouble shooting at night and came back to have a better look the next day and they were all working fine and have been since. I know this doesn't really help you.

I would start by ringing Traxide and see what his ideas are. If it helps maybe mention my problems to him as I did talk to him on the phone before they decided to fix themselves.

Had exactly the same issue with my 94 D1. Had to drive home in the dark and hold on the full beam, letting go whenever someone came the other way.

Found the lighter stalk wire had come off. Pulled the stalk apart and resoldered it and it worked fine for years therafter.

    good luck.

    Regards

    Martin

Finally got around to looking at the problem properly, just as you had Martin, a wire had broken at the bottom of the stalk. Thanks heaps for that snippet of advice.

    cheers

Glad I could help Kieren, at least it's a nice easy fix.
