hello from my observations 1. alot of people think just because it has a louder sounding note to the exhaust and is louder it automatically has more performance which isnt the case(eg:harley davidson with normal exhaust sound average so people put straight through pipes on them and instantly think it is going better but it is still doing the same speed but just giving the illusion it is going harder and faster due to the noise coming out of it) 2.there is a certain amount of "back pressure" that is needed for an engine to run correctly (eg:try blowing through a small straw and it takes awhile for all the air in your mouth to dissapear then just open your mouth and exhale it comes out very quickly without no resistance or pressure but has no ability to do work then go and get a maccas straw wich has a slightly larger diameter than the small straw but isnt as large as just opening your mouth and the flow of air through the maccas straw will have just enough resistance to be able to supply a good flow of air for a period of time and at the same time have just enough pressure to perform a task like blow the salt of the table just say)3.when i was looking at making my 200tdi sound louder i was asked by a friend "what size engine have you got?" i replyed 2.5ltr 4cyl turbo diesel he replyed "well theres your problem" i said what is the problem? he said "if you want it to sound like a big v8GM diesel well go and buy a big v8GM diesel then" 4.diesel exhaust systems are usually pretty much spot on the money when they come out the factory i was told by a person that is in the exhaust game 5.but on the other hand it does sound great having a gutsy sounding exhaust :D
I disagree...
Yes the performance isn't enhanced greatly but I agree with the others since I took out my centre muffler the turbo does seem to come on quicker
i mostly ment people that take off the whole system and put on a full straight through 3" exhaust expecting excellent performance as for taking the middle muffler off why not! im even considering taking mine of if it allows the turbo to spool quicker and doesnt affect anything it seems to be an ok mod then!:)
oh sorry....misunderstood.
yeah I think its ok but despite what people have said it has increased my cabin noise...I'm getting used to it though, I think I was just conscious that becasue I could hear it in the cab I was being obnoxious to other road users with the noise. But apparently its not that loud just lower in note and sounds really good! I can't actually hear it even with my head stuck out the window...I will have to get someone to drive it for me so I can hear it.
one thing I did noitice is you get a distinct whistle from the turbo much much earlier
oh i see! is the sound inside the cab just a drone sort of sound or is it still the sound but just louder? (i spos its hard to explain until i hear one in real life) im asuming its no louder than a 4bd1 in the cab is it? is it illegal to take the muffler of? (once again breathing is illegal so it wont suprise me)
I think it is illegal but hey if thy were that worried about emissions in this car why did they block off the egr!
as for sound I would say its a bit of a drone until you get up into cruising speeds but not noticeable with music on...defiantly quieter than the 200tdi 90 I have with no mods and all its exhaust:p
