Fuse box
I had the dash out of my 1997 300TDi auto Jap import over the weekend in pursuit of a water leak but that is another unresolved story. While I had the dash out I decided to run extra wires down the centre housing to allow me to put another cigarette lighter outlet near the rear ash tray and one in the rear of the car. What I now need is a switched feed from the fuse box to power these outlets. I have noticed three terminals on the under dash main fuse board one is labelled 6 and the other two are unnumbered but are next to the round canister on the fuse board. Are these good terminals to take the feeds off, will they take the current 15A max and are they already fused? I will be putting seperate fuses on these two circuits.
I am putting these outlets in for chargers etc.
Thanks
Adrian

What do you intend to run off these outlets ?
If you are going to draw 15 amps, the standard cigarette lighter outlets won't be enough - they are only good for a couple of amps at most. Get some heavy duty Anderson connectors or similar.
It would also also be best to put in seperate heavy wiring ( 6mm at least ) direct to the battery rather than using existing vehicle wiring. If you need it Acc position switched, put in a 40 amp relay and drive the relay coil off an accessory switched point. Even tapping in to the current cig lighter wire will be enough to drive the relay.
Of course for 15 amps, it would also be better to have a second battery, as it's going to drain your main battery pretty quick.
This of course is a lot more owrk than what you envisaged, but it will be hassle free

Helo Wayne I am just putting these in for chargers, laptop, LED work lights and that sort of thing. No great current draw on anything. I fed up using a double adaptor out of the dash one. I am using Hella 4943-R sockets which are rated at 15A but funnily the cover has a 20A rating stamped into it.
Thanks
Adrian
