A quick hello, and some info needed...

    Hello all.
I am the owner of a late build Disco 1 Tdi.
I have owned the vehicle since new.
It has done 325000km, and has for the most part been reliable.
I have recently had some work done, by a dealer,
which included reconditioning the fuel pump and replacing the injectors.
The vehicle was still having problems starting so they disconnected my auxiliary battery as it had coincidentally died in the few weeks that they had the vehicle.
I have had the car back for just a few days, now I am finding that a chime sounds at random intervals whilst driving. Some times it just sounds for a split second.
Other times it seems to be an uninterrupted tone.
It did it to me this morning while I was warming the glow plugs on top of the usual whilst driving.
    What could be causing this?
What warning chimes does the disco have?
I have heard it sound when the keys are in the ignition and the door is opened. What other alert chimes are there?

These are the D1 warning chimes as listed in the owners manual, not all apply to each market or car:

    AUDIBLE WARNINGS
In some markets the vehicle specification
will include one or more of the following
    Driver’s seat belt reminder
A buzzer will sound for up to 6 seconds if
the starter switch is turned to position ’II’
when the driver’s seat belt is unfastened.
    Starter key warning
A buzzer will sound if the key is left in the
starter switch when the driver’s door is
    opened.
    Excess speed warning
A buzzer will sound whenever the vehicle
    speed exceeds 120 km/h approx.
    Lights on warning
If the lights are left on after the starter switch
is turned off, a warning buzzer will sound
when the driver’s door is opened. The buzzer
will cease as soon as the lights are switched
off or when the driver’s door is closed.
    Transfer box warning
A warning chime will sound whenever the
transfer box gear lever is moved to the
    neutral position.

My previous D1 had the starter key warning and lights on warning only.

My current D1 has no audible warnings at all.

Not really sure what your problem is due to, but maybe the recent work done has woken up a new chime.

    OK. Thanks guv.
Going by what you say I have only heard the "starter key" warning and "lights on" warning.
I do not seem have "seat belt", "excess speed" or "transfer box" warning chimes.
I seem to remember hearing a chime when trying to start the car with a flat battery. One I hope not to hear again.
    Anyone aware of any others?
You would not think that any of the mentioned alerts would be sounding in my situation.

The only other warning sound would be that coming from the passenger seat, usually referred to as the "Partner/wife warning tone". This one in particular is very loud, ear piercing at times

I have tried to find ways to dissarm said alarm, but if you try to tamper with it the alarm must activate a secondary horn as it becomes louder again.

Excess speed in a tdi, thats funny .

Sound like one of the switches is either stuck or the wire fallen/broken off.

Yep. That is my fear (suppose it would be better that than, say a low fuel pressure chime). Now how to find and fix it?

    Brent,
Starting problems after a fuel pump fitment sounds like retarded timing to me...When you say not starting is it cranking longer than usual to make it start? and do you have to glow it to make it start?

Yeah, I was just about to post a thread wondering what the chime was that came on every-time I go to 120km/h.
I guess its over the limit, just never had a car where the chime sounds that early.

Back to your prob though, Has your car got a low water alarm?

My service, they changed all the hoses and put the bloody sensor in at a funny angle.
I recently bought an adopter to go in the radiater plug where the brass plug usually sits.

It could be that alarm if fitted, you may have air in your cooling system.

I did have one of those fitted years ago. Have never even heard it sound.
That could be it you know! Thank you. I can't believe I didn't think to check.

The original fault was fuel related, according to the dealer. After getting this issue rectified I am know left with the chime. The old girl starts well again now and seems to run fine.
