Major Prob's after a Major service!!

Tell ya what all good symtons but i still dont know where that oil splatter came from on the drivers side engine bay around the area of the vacume pump/oil filter. BUT THERE WHERE NO OIL LEAKS ANY WHERE!!!!

The only reason I said that was when the vacuum pump let go in the PUMA there was oil everywhere.

when mine Started failing in my disco it leaked a fair bit of oil

AAhh ok cool, make sure to tell the mech tomoz. thats why i said there was alot of oil around and mainly on the pump

how ever I dont know whether this would cause all your other symptoms I just figured because you said you had oil and it was around the pump area from my own experience I would say it was the pump that was causing the oil.

white smoke isnt uburnt diesel, white smoke is water burning (steaming) in the combustion chamber
black smoke is a restriction in the air intake (blocked air filter) or excessive load
blue smoke is oil burning in the combustion chamber

thats what I thought too however I was also informed that white smoke can be low compression too.

There needs to be a distinction made between steam and smoke.

White smoke is unburnt diesel. It isn't the result of the presence of water, because vapourised water is termed "steam".

Yes it is.:)

Steam is steam, and evaporates as such soon after leaving the tailpipe. White 'smoke' is unburnt/ partially burnt diesel fuel, Black smoke is burnt diesel, as you said, after a blocked air intake or excessive delivery.
White smoke is easily produced from a Tdi if timing is retarded or lacking in compression.
I am worried about the overheat/ now not starting and blowing white smoke Simon talks about. It doesen't sound very good at all.:( (Blown Head gasket springs to mind...:eek:)

The white smoke that came out lasted in the air alot longer than steam would i can vouch for that. MMMmmm head gasket....... i had a look at the oil and she seemed clean and coolant was at normal level. when we started to drive away from home, i felt a loss of power meaning i had the pedal down nearly all the way but did not think of it because we had huge winds down here hitting the car from the front while driving.

will let ya knows tomoz.
