Major Prob's after a Major service!!

Ok well i pick up my D1 300tdi from the local mech's at around 2.00 this arvo after having a few gaskets changed and a major service. Was driving to the mineral springs in blackwood to take some pics and to run the car alittle. When we hit the first incline on the melton freeway i had some power loss, from 100k's it droped down to 80K's with in 5 - 10 seconds. (Had that problem before) and everything was fine when we hit the flat top. Again we came to an incline and again she struggled to get up, then out of no where thick black smoke was coming out the muffler tip when i accelerated, went away then came back again. Pulled over to call the mech's and let him know what was happening, he said to turn around and bring it back to him. Couldnt do that cause when i pulled over the temp went up and i switched her off. Tried to turn her over and she would just crank. open the bonnet and on the right side of the engine bay was a splatter of what looked like oil!!!

Now under the car there was no oil leaks, oil in the engine was fine and level and coolant was alos fine, so towed it back to the mech's where he is going over it right now. WEIRD AS!!!!!!! dont have a clue what it could be......will soon find out though!!!!

    cheers simo

It sounds like you have blown a compressor hose of the turbo maybe, but it should have still started ok... and the overheating??????

    Hi Simon,

    Sorry to hear such horror!
Could be auto trans fluid? (If it is an auto obviously) as if it over heats climbing a hill, it'll vent through the dipstick tube EVERYWHERE. I have had a Auto do this when the pickup tube in the sump became blocked with the magnet in the sump pan. It got so hot that it even melted the kickdown cable outer. Must say, the non starting worries me a little though

    Hope its sorted soon!

    Compressor hose????????

Tubro sounds fine, the splatter of oil was on the drivers side around where the oil filter is, the oil was all of the vacume pump and on the top of the front diff. Like i said there was no oil leak or anything. oil was fine, no water in the oil, coolant was good jst weird how i had no power going uphill and when i pushed it going up thats when thick black smoke was coming out the back. dont know dude.

cheers JC could not tell you what it could be???? thing is and yes its an auto, the fluid should have been all over the motor and bonnet, but it wasn't just in the area of the oil filter and vacume pump. it didnt not start when the temp was high but when she got cooled it started but with alot of white smoke coming from the back. prob will find out tommorow.

Prob a stupid question but is there oil in the pump??? being because the pump was more in oil than everything else now that you have said that.

    Hmm, vacuum pump???
    How is that?

I had a major service done also and found all sorts of prob after the Land rover mech did their bit.
    I hate that.

    Hope it all works out.
I have no clue as to what it could be.
hopefully the mech just forgot to fasten something.

No wild guesses here but best wishes.

Hmmm, White smoke is unburnt diesel, and the black smoke under load suggesting a blockage of air intake . I would suggest as others have at this point it sounds like a VERY delaminated turbo to intercooler hose. Most likely the elbow from the turbo to the Intercooler hose.

when I lost power up a hill.....got black smoke and then over heated and wouldn't start after letting it cool (how ever dont forget I had a starter issue)

when I did manage to start it and drive it home it was ok....what was my problem the radiator!! it was 20% blocked inside but 100% blocked on the outside..

I thought a hose through the grill got it clean enough from the last time I was through the mud...that was months previous. Obviously not
