    will let ya knows tomoz.

Well chaps will find out tomorrow what it is, heres hoping!!!!
    Simon,

Noticing a loss in power earlier on may mean the timing IS out. When did it last have a timing belt? When they become slack, that is when they can hop a tooth ,when cranking over/starting. Just another 2c thought Doesn't REALLY explain the overheating bit though

Did you have the oil filter changed as part of the service?

    Unhappy

Oki well just got back from the mech's, now the smoking was cause by them putting thicker oil in the engine, changed it to original oil and smoke's like every other diesel. Thing that i'm worried about and thinking that i wont have a landy for much longer is that there is a **** load of blow back coming from the engine. He also says that one of the turbo fins have been bent from something going threw the air box!!!!!!!

She was running fine before i took her in there, turbo was fine.
i took her for a spin and she seemed ok and now where the oil splatter came from is the unit where the oil filter sits and he checking that out as we speak or type.

so not good news, i dont want to part with my disco, within the past month i have replaced

    water pump
    themostat
    new Altanator
    new hoses
new BFG A/T's and more that i cant think of cause i'm stressing lol.

    Sorry to hear mate.
Could still be simple to fix.

Would this be sitting on his shoulders as your mech did the last work and done something.
Or at least come to the party with labour and you do parts if needed.

cheers mate, lol you would think that he would take some responsability BUT NO!!!!!! his excuse is that the engine has done its time and its old!!!!

Felt like smacking him right in the gob!!!!!!!!!!

Actually called a land rover mech located in ferntree gully here in vic, great guy but just a little expensive for me at the moment being retrenched and all from work, and he said that the valves have **** them selfs and it would need the head coming off $2000 later.....

at the end of the day i'm not going to get rid of the landy i've spent too much on her and i guess i just have to work out something.

    cheers simon

    Why Now!!!! There's Still Time...

Well i have posted my drama's on another thread ( Major Prob's After Major Service) so in a nut shell i took my D1 300Tdi to get a major service and he stuffed it by running thicker oil and nearly blowing my turbo, bent a turbo fin. Called a land rover mech and told him my woes and he said the valves are stuffed and will have to take apart the head.

So i'll have to find $2000 before the land rover gathering that i'm hosting and have 4WD TVcoming down to film it. Thing is he's not owning up to the stuff up and i dont know what to do???? Either way if i cant get my landy running by then i might have to take a Commo which breaks my heart

    What to do!!!!!!!!

Simon, if I were you, I'd really take this so-called mechanic to the cleaning people. As long as the vehicle was going OK BEFORE the car went to him, It seems that the work he has done has not resulted in the repair of the faults for which the vehicle was contracted to him to repair.

Champ, it's down to him!!! Small claims Tribunal, here you come!!!

Meantime, if you have a bit of time, call on other members of the fraternity - AMV, for example - but you'll have to take the car to them to get assessed. Talk with Greg on 9870 9904.

I must say it all sounds strange. Do you have an invoice saying what type of oil? Even if it was 20W60 it wouldn't ruin an engine within a day's operation.

How does the other mechanic know that the "valves are stuffed" ?

Is it driveable? I'd be taking it elsewhere and getting a diagnosis on what exactly the problem is.

    Simon,

This all sounds a bit on the nose.

Can you get all the diagnosis and testing that was done in writing?

Maybe a phone call to the MTA is worth a go, they will advise you on how to proceed .
