    Not quite Burt Munro

I was down on Oreti Beach (of The Worlds Fastest Indian fame) monday morning when I heard a new knocking noise from the front left. On checking it looked like I had lost the bottom shock absorber nut and large washer. Drove back into Invercargill to get it sorted. Removed the front left wheel and the difficult to remove rubber spacer to see the nut still there. What had happened was the lower washer had popped over the nut and fallen off, the shock was still bolted on just loose. Straight into E Hayes & Sons which is an old fashioned hardware and tool shop. I almost forgot what I was after as Burt Munroes Indian motorcycle and the film replica are on display along with a collection of old motorbikes plus the most amazing home built petrol engine made from whatever was in the workshop, and it runs!

Anyway I got a 10mm hole square galv washer and fixed the errant shock. It is still there after doing another 1500km home. Might even stay there a while longer till I replace the shocks. By the way the shocks and steering damper are Rancho brand and still seem to work as needed. And my wagon is a 1997 300TDi auto Jap import.

That was a cracking movie and I found out afterwards that an employee of mine, who was motor sport fanatic around 50+yrs old, had watched Burt regularly down south when racing. He watched him race on the ovals where Burt struggled to get it round the turns, but in a straight line......lightening

    cheers

Nice work, me and my missus were there last year and found out about the hardware store thanks for the people at the local museum. It was kinda cool seeing the genuine article in amongst whipper snippers etc :P

I highly recommend buying the doco on Burt too, shows how cool he really was and how great a job Hopkins did with his accent.
