Detroit's should only be put in the rear, and then you could put a tru trac in the front and you will be cheerin!![]()
Hi all. Ive been looking at air lockers and auto lokers for my D1 300TDi. A big price difference between them (about $1000, air being more expensive). I have seen some post re auto lockers (Detroit) in the AULRO, and presently favour them (rear only??). Any recent thoughts?

i've never had any experiance with the detroits but we have air lockers in our county and soon to be my disco, they are great!!
The best thing about them is you can turn them off when you don't want to use them, thats the down side to detroits

Im about to place an order for a Detroit with axles to follow shortly. I opted for Detroit as its a set and forget scenario, great for towing too.

Yes, I'm grinnin, but I need to lobby the war-office to fund my new plans. Thanks
Thanks all - I think the auto lockers (detroit/tru trac) may be favoured.![]()
Can some explain to me how not being able to turn off a detroit in a constant 4 wd system is a disadvantage?
Would the extra traction advailible all the time and good steering at the same time be a good thing ?
When i said 'can't be turned off', i should have mensioned in a situation when you want to try drive a hill without lockers just for abit of fun and to test the limits of an unlocked 4wd
Also i have heard something about having an auto locker in the rear while trying to drive slippery down hill side slopes can leed to sliding side way's when you want to stay up high on the track
Not quite shore if this is true though
Not being able to turn them off isn't a very big deal, but anyway, i spose you pay alot extra just for the advantage of being able to turn them off
