    buying info needed

Well wife wants more comfort so time to buy a disco.
    Im looking at 300 tdi's.
I have found a 98 auto with airbags abs and cruise.
    My questions are:
is the auto more sluggish than manual (currently a 300tdi defender owner)
And is it wise to get one with airbags (used offroad frequently)
There is also another manual with no abs cruise or airbags and 20000 morke kms.
Both have service history, is there any real big issues to look for.

    Thanx in advance Shane.

    Shano,
Go the simple one as long as it is a 1998 also, as this is the better (Last) of the Tdi D1's.

No D1's had factory cruise with the Tdi in australia.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

I drove an auto and a manual, I bought a manual because it does go better, the auto looses too much power in the torque converter for my liking.
Did the usual intercooler and pump tweak and runs great.
I have a 97Tdi and have driven 3 others and they all drive differently for some reason. So drive them all and pick your favourite.
Or buy cheap and spend some $'s on suspension and goodies etc.

Service records are a must though.
I found a good one here in market section recently, they want 12K for it.
Sounds good though and very low K's.

    Good luck.

Mine is a 97 model with ABS and SRS airbags. If I was looking for one now I'd prefer one that hasn't got them.

The ABS is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike, and if you have problems with it the sensors etc pretty soon amount to LOTS of $$$.

The airbags limit which bullbars you can use. To keep it legal you need to use SRS compatible ones which don't come up often second hand and around $1400 new.

hi, just a quick note on that i looked for a srs aribag winch bar, from arb on ebay for a bout 7 months, it cost me 1100 used. with out crush cans. 150 extra =1250 used bar, new one 1750 from arb now if that was not all bad enoughf. when we looked in the manual about airbag info, land rover say after 10 years you have to have your air bag cartrage replaced because they expire. ours is 12 years old . oh and they want 1000 plus for it. plus install. and an srs sensor 1500$ AU PER CORNER 4wd au wanted 500 each, a dude on ebay sold me one for 60 bucks. and after all that , the car only has one bag. lame eh. next disco will be non air 5 speed.
