GFC winch install with no Bullbar

I advocate leaveaving it disengaged and hooking the hook onto a recovery point.

then tension the cable by pulling it over to the other recovery point by means of an occy strap wrapped around the cable with both hooks of the occy strap into the recovery point.

I read it and immediately went out to disengage mine.

I have synthetic rope, waiting for aluminium hawse fairlead to make its way from the US.

I've disconnected it for now and will use a 100amp red key thingo I've got when I get to it. The clutch is disengaged and the hook cable tied to the fairlead.

A winch starting with no one home would sure end badly, and what's with those barstards putting your hook on your towball and shorting the winch relays! How rude! Come back from shopping and you'd have two halves of a disco sitting there! :eek:

PSI you must love looking for trouble! I remember an Otways outing once when it took 36 hours to take 8 little zooks 7km. I was a little madder back then, but those clay roads of yours take the cake!

I assume the 100 amp thingo is for your main power lead to the winch. This being the case it is nowhere big enough. I can't remember what my 9000 warn pulls but something in excess of 200 amps spring to mind. I vaguely remember it using 70 amps when under no load.

As for how I leave my winch, I hook it to the jack point of ARB bar and leave it with a small load. I have had intentions of putting an isolating switch in the cabin to stop the vandels but it is in my "gunna do this one day basket" like a lot of other things.
