Shano,
Open up the remote and carefully inspect the holder for the battery. The solder commonly breaks and requires resoldering as the circuit will be open.
Also, replace the battery while you are in there. (CR2015 IIRC?)

I have just purchased a 1998 tdi discovery. After owning it for 3 days the key fob thingo to unlock doors no longer works. I have tried both and i get nothing. Is there a common problem? And if not where do i start looking as i cant even see the siren for the alarm. Cheers Shano.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Replaced battery and solder joints are fine (evidence on 1 fob of a repair). Still nothing. Where is the unit in the car located ?
Shano, the unit is under the passenger side of the dash, behind glovebox. It is a green coloured box. It is possible that the aerial has been damaged but unlikely. Were both remotes working until now?

Well unsure of second unit as i didnt check it when i purchased, but it looks like new. Hmm its gota be something simple surely.
There is a fuse for the central locking, if one of the actuators has fried itself the fuse will blow. Does the central lock work if you use the key in the drivers door? If not then I suspect the fuse has blown. I can't remember which one it is but it is a picture of a door and a lock on the fuse box cover under the steering column.

key works fine, just the key fobs that dont.
Try disconnecting the battery and leave it for a while then reconnect. ( ie do a hard reset of the alarm/remote locking unit )
If that doesn't work you may need to take it to an aftermarket LR servicer who has a Testbook to get the fobs resynched.

Hi, mi suggestion comes from user manual: You may press "lock" button a couple of times, maximal four times. If the remote sincronizes, the lock signal lights will come. And it will work again...
Good luck
