    my first landy

    i just got my self a 95 disco 300tdi
    what the best revs to change gears at?
    and whats the highest its safe to rev the engine out to?
    never had a oil burner befor thanks for any help.

    Congrats firstly!

    I usually shift at 2000-2500 thats a pretty standard rev range for shifting in usual driving conditions

    Nice work mate.

    Looks in good nik.

    Change when you feel its time.

    Diesels work on low down torque not revs, so the higher the revs, the less happens usually.

    The turbo lag is a bit of an issue and a better intercooler and pump tweak can help.

    I also tend to change around the 1800-2500 mark.

    Check your cooling system is good and timing belt been done every 80k km's.
    These are the two biggest killers of these motors.

    I occasionally see 3700- 4200 rpm but i try to keep it well below that.

    Change the timing belt as a priority. I just did mine the hard way, to be avoided...!!!

    Not sure on the auto, mine's a 200, turbo kicks in around 1500, wind it out to suit situation really...
