    300 tdi serpentine belt?????

im working on a frends disco and having a hell of a time geting a "new" serpentine belt on( the old one refits relativly easily),i wouldent expect they stretch mutch at all but the new just wont go on. Any trick to it or have i been given the wrong belt?( seems to me to be a centimeter at least to short )

It is probably the wrong belt. A 1994 to 1996 ( up to TA chassis numbers) take a 1595mm belt, and 1996 to 1998 take a 1580mm belt. 1595mm belt part number is ERR3287, and 1580mm belt is ERR5911. The diameter of the alternator pulley was changed to a smaller one therefore the shorter belt.

there is a difference between a disco and defender belt, i now run a disco belt on the defender as i now run a disco alternator or is it the pulley

in short, yes there are two different belts for the 300tdi

This comes up quite a bit, as some catalogues are ambiguous about model years etc. The other issues that can arise is Tdi A/C belts for defenders and discos, the Australian Defenders all had locally fitted aircon, and subsequently the belts are different. D1 Tdi take a 1322mm belt, the Defender takes a 1360mm belt. And Then the Td5 came along. Local A/C fitment in Defenders meant that again, the belts were particular to australian models only

    Anyway, there I go again.....
