    Rear Fog Lights on a D1 300tdi

    G'day All,

i have noticed a button on the left hand side of the steering wheel that switches on the rear fog lights.....now at night when i switch my lights on i only have the bar lights come on and the main rear lights have nothing which to me looks weird as i've seem other D1's with the complete reversal....i have switched them on last night and it seemed fine as they are not to bright.

i know on other cars that have this feature are only used overseas as thats where it was made to be used.

    what do you guys think???

    cheers simon

Unless they're fitted with 5w globes, leave them switched off.

Later D1s had upper/lower taillights so I assume you have a 1995 MY.

Rear foglights are to be used only in foggy conditions (or similar, ie smoke). Same goes for front ones.

They are brighter than normal tail lights (think more like brake light brightness) and their use in clear conditions is annoying to other drivers and illegal.

The brake lights in your rear pillars should be Brake/tail lights ...
because the tail lights are so weak I actually modified my original cluster to allow a tail light to work in the slim segment below the brake/tail and above the reverse light... Rather than using the fog lights which are too bright and would make your brake lights difficult to see

I've since swapped the clusters and have the higher indicators.

Don't know if D1 are the same as D2 but I don't have fog lights on the front so I put 5w globes in the back of mine.
Only use them when on main roads.
It's a truck driver thing, can never have to many lights

    Cheers.

Rear fog lights are fitted with standard 12V/21W bulbs. They are located in the pillar rear light clusters. On Discos from MY1994 onwards bumper mounted rear lights and indicators were fitted (rather stupidly) as some markets required this modification. The pillar mounted clusters remained, although were only used for reverse light and fog light. Since the wiring harness was not changed, it is easy to fit the respective bulbs and, voilá, you have a rear light even in the pillar. Likewise, the earlier model's cluster which contains the amber indicator is a straight fit, which gives you the advantage of having double rear lights and indicators, a nice safety feature.

My 98 disco has the rear fog lights.

The only time I have needed to use them was during a trip to the high country, when the fog was very thick on one occasion. We were traveling very slow because of the conditions, but it was difficult to see the lights of the other vehicles in our convoy from even a very short distance. By comparison, my rear fog lights were much easier for the vehicle behind to see.

They are useful when someone is tailgating you also.
