What engine?
Hi again folks...
Had the big red truck out on the road again yesterday, alot of driving racked up today, alot of short jumps along the highway filming a steam train for a DVD im working on , anyway at the end of the day i got stopped at a set of lights and the car was idling abit lower that normal...
This morning i had a good lookover everything and it all seems to be in order, needed a bit of transmission fluid but otherwise nothing i could spot.
Took her out again for a couple of hours with no sign of the problem, its idling along at about 600rpm
Its off to the spanners next Thursday for its scheduled maintenance service anyway but i thought id find out from the boffins on here.
Any thoughts?
What engine?
How did you diagnose the lower rpm? By rev counter or by ear? 600 is acceptable for a tdi, although the specified revs are a bit higher. Shouldn't cause you any worry.
Cheers
Johannes
There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
Shes got a 3.9L V8,
It was by ear that i noticed a problem
it will be the IAC valve. its attached to the inlet chamber at the back, close to the fire wall, remove it and spray it with carby cleaner. thats all you can really do.
change plugs etc....
cheers phil
Adjusting the TPS and MAF can also help with idle problems, but the IAC valve is the first place to look.
and after all thats been sorted and it still runs ruff... cam lobes
cheers phil
...valley gasket?? That was my problem, tried everything else...usual LR stuff tested and swapped out inc IAC, CPU etc etc...hours and hours f'n around, then did the gasket and greatly improved - used composite as the tin one is visibly a piece of complete and utter rubbish![]()
Had a poke arounnd with the IAC valve, the problem appeared to be solved.
But now for some reason when i stop, be it at traffic lights or whatever after a few seconds the idle drops right off to basicly 0, sometime it will correct itself but it has stalled twice now.
Mine does the same thing, alot more often when i run bad fuel or 91 octane type (even thou the octane rating does not affect our units as we have such low compression, i think over here in Aus they might so call water down the mix).
I have got around the issue so far by winding the throttle on a bit more at rest on the butterfly. He he, yeah its not the right fix but kept me happy for a few weeks till i have fix it.
What does the IAC valve do? I was going to look at timing and my spark plugs and leads, the Leads look a bit short. And maybe pop open the Distributor cap and have a poke around.
Big Jon mentioned the TPS unit, what might this be? LOL the letters will probably stand for something real simple.
