I'm running Toyo 255/65R16 on 8 inch wide NP5 rims. The OD is 738 mm (2mm more than the 235/70R16 Toyos I had on before with the 7 inch LR alloys) and the width of tread that contacts the tarmac is 260mm.

They cost $260 each from Tyre Power and are good on road (about 90% of my driving).

I got the same issue! I just picked up a 97 Tdi. I ended going with a 245/70/16, by default I might add. The tyre I ended up choosing didnt come in a 245/75/16. But by all account it should suit my purposes well. At least with this size the speedo should be pretty much spot on.

Its a little bit bigger, but not enough to rub guards on most 4wd duties. Any bigger and I undestand its a gaurd chop, which I am a bit reluctant to do.

I ended up going Silverstone 117 AT's (BFG ripoff pattern). Cost me $195 a tyre from Hobsee's 4WD shop.

I've already got a 2 inch spring kit here waiting for it to get back from the mechanic, just to give it a bit more hieght.

A set of 15 inch rims and full muddys for winter on the cards now!
