Just went and finally had a look. GVM = 2720kgs... hmmmm. What does one of these bad boys weigh from stock?
Anyone done one of these to a D1???

Depending on V8/Diesel, manual/auto etc, the standard weight is pretty much 2000kg.
Dullbird weighed hers recently with extras like bullbar, bigger tyres and I think it came in around 2300kg.
I think to increase the GVM would be rather expensive with engineering modifications and then inspection/certification.
Might be better to look at a small camper/trailer of some sort to spread the load.
We have had GVM upgrades done on our work LandCruiser troopies.
All that was required was upgraded rear springs.
Engineering costs were about $400 per vehicle (inspection and plate issued).
I would imagine you shouldn't have too much trouble with a Discovery, provided you could prove it had stiffer than standard rear springs. The wheel bearings and studs are the same as a Defender 130, so loading shouldn't be a problem.
have stiffer than standard springs gave him the rates and everything but nothing was ever mentioned about uprating the GVM on mine even though I reckon he could of...in saying that I never asked either
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Cheers people! Was just trying to make my truck safe and legal. I only want a 50mm lift and I know that shouldnt cause to much drama, but I thought while I am there I may as well look at getting a GVM upgrade at the same time. I want to fit a fridge, rooftop tent, bigger tyres, winch bar (which I already have), and possibly a winch, plus a long range tank. So I am thinking that with gear and people it will go close to the 2720 GVM. Even if I only got another couple of hundred kilos or even 100 kilos I would be happy. Just trying to give myself a little bit more of a margin![]()
Be careful loading up your Rangies and Discos Boys and girls.
I regularly see split sill seams, cracked bulkheads and broken body mounts from heavy loads, big roofracks and corrugations etc etc. Even with decent springs and shocks etc the toll on the body mounts is inevitable.
Extended outback touring with lots of gear is Defender/ County territory.
(BTW, compared to most jappers the RR and Disco have good mountings...)
I fully seam welded my bulkhead seams and spotwelds, and regularly inspect my other mounts, but since taking the camper trailer every trip I'm not so worried.
Take heed!

i have a discovery 1 and had it weighed today, 2420kg on the scale. no driver. and no gear, thats starting to get up there. we have put on an arb bar winch, lpg, still have the 90l petrol , lockers and roof rack, i recon with the camping gear we are over 3000, ill have to weigh in when its loaded.what are other discos weighing in at ? dont forget to check up on your tyre load rating. some are lower than others, and tyre pressure too, my tyres look flat unless they are up to at least 40 psi, we have fitted the heavest arb ome springs we can get. they are fantastic.
