    SRS light/Speedo/noises

My speedo has been getting worse jumping all over the place, sometimes dying all together until I restart the car. Today the SRS light came on after breaking on dirt, and since then has stayed on!

Are these things related, as in electrically, or just two seperate issues.

Speaking of SRS, I noticed the drivers side hub has oil all over it, like oil has been poured over the top of the hub. The oil has dripped onto the inside of the rim... What is causing this, I take it CV oil leakage?

And... what also happened today was noises (cherping) intermittently which to me seems like a rear bearing on its way out.

So, maybe I should of stayed home today

    In no particular order:

    1. SRS is the airbag system - and if the wires near the back of the transfer / handbrake drum area are rubbing on metal, that can cause the SRS to fault (Dash light stay on - the power for the TC temp sender is on the same circuit) and the feed from the speedo transducer to play up.

    2. Hub - it's sounds like just a hub seal. Search hub seal on this forum, and there is plenty of info of how and which seal to use.

    3. Chirping - more likely an indicator that the serpentine belt tensioner is on it's way out. Again, plenty of info.

Thanks mate, I was actually meaning ABS - goes to show where my mind is at the moment!

The sound was coming from the back, or it seems, as when driving I stick my head out window and can hear it coming from the back.

Ill check some more on hub seals here, have done initial search but ill try again.

    Cheers,

take it to the garage and have them put it on the diagnostic machine...it will tell you if you have an intermitant problem with an abs sensor it is has failed....

this happened to me a little while ago although I was pulling into a car parknig space and opps brakes gone. took it to the shop intermitant..they cleared it for me but it came back as failed so we changed it no problem with it since.

I only have two sensors left to change now
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

I got the Tassie God of Rover Wisdom (JC) looking at it on Wednesday. Recons the oil on the hub is most likely from the sensor seal which MAY also be why the light is on.

The other problem (chirping) maybe brakes staying tight on disc, but he will check that too.

I had the same chirping noise in mine, and I ended up having to replace the uni's at on the front tail shaft, still need to do the one at the handbrake drum,, had already replaced the rear diff one(rubber joint)

The ABS light, sometimes the switch at the foot pedal stuffs up,, I've had it cleared a couple of times by LR dealers, should have just replaced the swith, but never got around to it,, I have had the issue for some time now, (years) where sometimes ABS works,, and sometimes it doesn't. I'd much prefer it didnt when I'm out in the bush,,

Got the disco with Justin. Rear left bearing was completely shagged, as in rusted peices of bearing falling out including rollers. So that was the squeeky sound!

ABS sensor has been knocked out by the steel brake line... must of hit something hard as it has also slightly bent the track rod.

JC suspects speedo jumping and dying periodically is a plug thing... lets hope.
