what does the noise sound like......I bet your wheel bearing is seizing

this what happened to me although I got a kind of chirping coming from my car...which went away for about 3 days....

i said to Ian if I had to describe the noise it would be what I would think a dry bearing would sound like....(never heard one)

the noise then acme back so I could show him.....it went from a chirping noise to a kind of walking through wet grass squishing noise...which Ians said it sounded like a rubber noise to a full on crunch every now and again...took it straight home ripped the wheel off and sure enough dry bearing which had seized and had dropped rollers

you dont have splits in your rubber end caps do you? this is what happened to me they were split and having fun off road did a fair bit of high puddle driving which washed all the grease out the wheel bearing

what is sounds like is when your brake pads are just about gone and you get that grinding noise. happens when i brake slowly as well.

    Hi Mate,
If the wheel bearings has a small amount of movement the disc could be touching the worn pads as it loads up.

The offer is still there if you want to come over on the weekend.

    Cheers

I've got the same on the passengers front side but i'm almost certain it's the bearings because there is play in the wheel when i wobble it by hand. No vibration or anything else nasty when i'm driving, just a brake squeake now and again which i'm assuming (as Alian D2 says) is the missaligned hub letting the pads rub on the discs. Got a 52mm hub nut spanner on order then i'll be straight at it.

Let me know how you get on.

    Wheel Bearing

Waking a sleeping thread here but was on the same subject.

my right hand wheel made a (vibration) humming noise when turning right. took it to one of the well known rover specialists in perth (wont name which) to change the injector pump and timing belt. i asked him to look at it but he went ahead and did the work anyway when he found out the right hand wheel bearing was seized and the hub axle was spinning on fixed metal. he changed that and both sides front bearings as both had old seals (prone to leaking). the back ones he said were new.

I was originally quoted 2k for the pump n timing belt. the bill came up to 3k. i only just stopped sobbing. it needed doing thats for sure but i wish he consulted me. on the other hand i asked him to look at it and im not sure if i asked him to call me first.

I could probably have done the work myself but might not have had all the bits n pieces and car off the road for a few weeks.

im trying to see bright side here.

anyway just for future information when people look for this same problem.

I work in the service industry (not cars) and believe its just common courtesy to ring the customer and advise if you found more issues that need attention than 1st thought, give an idea to costs....or at least give them the option as to if they want it done or not.

Hear this too many times in the auto service industry...
