My tacho on my TDi is playing up. At idle the tacho sits at zero and when I rev the engine it flutters a bit to about 1000rpm.
I know this is run from the alternator. Does anyone know how to test whether it is the tacho or the alternator? (My guess would be the alt)
Also if the problem is alternator is this a warning that the charge side of things could be ready to fail, or is the charge and tacho completely separate?
Dave.
Dave, remove the tach feed wire off the back of the alt and clean the male spade bit with a bit of emery/ sand paper, also nip the female spade plug closed a little and push back on. If you dont have any charging issues then this should fix it - did mine 2 years ago and been fine since.
