oh my god the same thing happened to me tonight NO JOKE!!!
I know its not my imagination but I really feel silly taking it to the mechanic if its just a loose bolt.
The sound is as follows. It seems to come from the drivers side, even from behind dashboard. Like a loose nut spinning or something.
It also only appears as the car is moving and above 2000rpm(300 tdi-manual).
The accelerator has to be on and as soon as i back off, the sound is gone.
will not do it at standstill.
I checked under the car and under dashboard.Has me totally stumped, anyone had similar problems.
Driving me loopy.![]()

Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
So its not a sqeeking sound that the dash would make (rubbing plastic)? The only thing I can say is open the lid under the steering wheel and look under whilst using your hand to gently and progressively add pressure to the throttle until, and hopefully, sound starts again. You need a torch too i recon![]()

Thanks stooge but I have to be moving, it only appears as I am driving.
Its more a metallic sound like a nut spinning or I even thought the speedo maybe but why than only over 2k rpm and only while I have accelerator depressed.
Strange.
Turbo bearing????
Regards Philip A
Could it be a clutch bearing? transfering the sound and making you think it's from the Dash.
Has total clutch rebuilt and turbo on other side.
Its just weird.
Have to take it in I think.

Check the washers on the back of the hockey sticks. Nuts on mine were loose and would make a spinning metal disc sound. Might need to park facing uphill and downhill to see it.
Hmm What the heck are hockey sticks? Sounds interesting.
