    Disco 1

Hi there i have recently got a landrover discovery looks to be a pretty early one 1992 model , its got the 3.5i and backed up by a 4 speed auto. I have come from a background of strictly toyota and now crossed over to the darkside , as far as its performance offroad for a stock standard car i must say i am very impressed. However i am finding it hard to find out alot of info on this combination. I am a trade qualified mechanic also.

Apart from the use of lucas caps and rotors and the advance playing up is there anything else i have to be aware of with this models ignition system apart from general dizzy style maintainance

What are the autos like in these , this one has clean fluid and shifts very well, also do they just take dex3 like most autos.

How do i identify what transfer case i have and does it have this viscous coupling i have read about, the case in mine has a rather large what looks to be inspection plate down one side if thats any help.

Is it normal for this model to have no swaybars fitted , there is none however i suspected the grandpa that owned it before me wouldnt have removed them..

Thanks in advance for helping to answer my questions

Gooday, My 92 D1 doesn't have sway bars either.
I think they were fitted from 93 on ?
Use genuine LR parts in the dizzy !!!
You made a good choice getting the D1, I love mine.
    Cheers.

The Auto is the last thing that will give you trouble. When coupled to the smaller V8 like you have they will go forever.
The transfer case is LT230 very strong. Just make sure you engage the diff lock when going off road. Center diffs don't like being given a hard time when unlocked.

    Enjoy

Help me if I'm wrong but is the change interval really every 10.000km??? Sounds rather frequent to me (i have a manual, btw).

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.

He means he will change the fluid often as he can get it at a "good" price from work.

exactly right , a clean and cool auto is a happy one in any application (thanks work) i have noticed something however that seems a bit odd there was not much grease in the front bearings just a tiny drizzle of oil , are these oil fed or are they just about to let go on me.. as for your question mitch the toyota had lockers front and rear and a bit of lift and 33s and im more impressed with the disco in standard form its safe to say i have been converted. Hmm mitch that disco wouldnt hapen to be a diesel auto would it with 4 spotties on the roof? i have a strange feeling... =]
