    Brake Failure ABS problem?

I have an intermittent brake failure...Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue with the brakes on a Discovery series 1 with ABS.
Sometimes I lose nearly all brake pressure. (say 1 in 15 times)
Straight afterwards I get a loud 'spring sound'.
After that I get full brake pressure again after I pump the pedal and all seems OK until the next time it happens... russian roulette!
Ive replaced the brake master cylinder with a new one but still have the problem.
Has anyone had this problem with the ABS or something else?

    Thanks Kris

Yes......I have had this its the ABS kicking in when it shouldn't be, do you find it happens when slowing on uneven ground of pulling into driveways at slow speeds?

If so then take it to your garage get them to put the computer on it and get them to check the ABS sensors.....I had this happen to me for ages before the anti lock brake started staying on it was an intermitant failure on an ABS sensor and then finally a failure on the sensor.

I believe a bad connection in the sensor wire can do this also.

    Thanks dullbird for the advice.
Do you or does anyone else know if you can over-ride the ABS as a temp measure say by removing the fuse?

just unplug a sensor. doesn't mater which one it will see a open circuit and shut down the ABS and you will just have normal brakes

yes you can but it may not be that simple.

if when youve changed the master cylinder or the last time the brakes were bled air has made it into the ABS pump unit and is cycling there you can wind up with very similar symptoms.

I'm not sure thats quite right... only because when my first abs sensor failed it was open circuit and thats the reason I was having such symptoms one would think it should be the case but i'm not convinced it is from my own experience

dull birds right, just unplugging a sensor disables ABS to that wheel and fires up the ABS light.

Do NOT unplug a sensor in this model ABS system, IT will register a fault but the system will still try and brake the vehicle, only now ABS on only 3 wheels.

Just get it repaired, properly and quickly.
