I guess knowing in what region you want to spend will help a little in your choices
Hi all,
i am new to AULRO. I am 21 and have just purchased my first disco!!!! :-D after growing up driving my old mans Tdi and my brother in-law having one!
Its a "97 300Tdi 190km Man. Stock as a rock! got some plans for her, nothing major. I want her to be relatively capable for abit of fun but still reliable for getting to and from work.
Anyway i am looking into lift kits. 2inch or so. I have a quote from ARB at about $1700 with castor kit and im just abit sceptical as to the marking up of the price on there products and as to how GOOD they really are? i mean are other brands competive in performance at a better price or is ARB and say TJM the only places who have really specifically engineered the suspension kits for this model? i am completely unaware and as im an apprentice price is some what of an issue but i dont want to buy crap either.... hearing from peoples opinion of what they have actually done would be awesome and greatly appreciated as i am not a suspension expert....HELP please :-P
thanks guys....
Matt
btw... i have found so much useful information on here its unbelievable!! looking forward to posting pictures andbecoming a more active member of the landie clan :-P

Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Hi Four stroke,
I went the ARB 2" lift about 5 years ago on my 96 Disco and it has done the job! I think i paid about the same price. Try the guys at www.suspension stuff.com.au they have some great ideas. I will be going for Dobson spring and shock lift next with my sway bars removed.
Cheers Jim
In my 1998 old disco I fitted 40mm rise King springs and Bilstein shocks and was heaps chep that that and it is among the best suspension combos available.
Shop around for the best offer and do the job your self![]()
I reccomend the gear from suspension stuff.
drop that into google.com and limit it to australian pages only

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
I also use Shane at suspension stuff in Qld, he will freight across Oz and not rip you off.
He sells good 'kits' for around the $800 mark delivered if you can fit it yourself and save some money.

cheers and dont forget the pics when its done, thems the rules![]()
Yeap Shane is the way to go!
I got MD Dobinson springs which gave me 2.5" lift and Lovelle shocks all for $720
And the set up works great! good ride, and flexes well in the bush, you might want to check you dont have a rubber donute drive shaft at the back! as that will need to be replaced with w 4 bolt but thats a simple job and will cost about $200-$300
James.
I just put a 2" lift from Shane in. Dobinson coils and Bilstein dampers. I looked at the cheaper dampers, but as I couldn't established their precise parentage, I decided to stick to a well reputed brand.
Total cost was $1100.
thanks guys for your help. To answer someones question i live in GEELONG but will be travelling in the otways, alpine national park, grampians, etc. EVERYWHERE :-P im a hunter and fly fisherman so i do abit of kms to get to special places.
I have been looking at the gear from suspension stuff and going off everyones opinion they seem to be pretty good. especially for the price. Also people have noted the Pedders set up. and my brother in law did this with his, but had to get a castor kit done which i dont mind doing, as its a daily driver it needs to handle well and not be shaky down highway.
Thanks guys i think ill do abit more reserach and ringing around but personally i think the ARB OME might be abit over priced for what im looking for. dont get me wrong they are probably great but unfortunately apprentice wages just sometimes dont stretch that far :-P
cheers guys
What have you done
"those S%$t landrovers, they're all crap, not as goot as those to$^ta and Nis#$ns"
"See you drive a toyota because they're good"
Believe it or not those quotes came from two different car dealers while looking at Disco's with Matt. WTF is that how to sell a car, at least the ordeal is over.
Welcome on board Matty, can't wait to see the new toy. Mine had Pedders springs with Foam Cell Shocks, and I think it was about a 2.5" Lift. You should remember what the car was like. It was woeful. It also had a castor correction kit in the front. Would never again go that set up.
I replaced the rear donut twice, the first wasn't genuine and didn't last long, but the second was the genuine GKN which lasted 20,000+ K's.
I would second Chucaro's opinion on the Kings/Billies combo, as i've heard about a few people with this setup, that are very happy.
I would also do the lift yourself (just make sure your mates don't lose bit's like they did on mine), assuming you have access to garage, as I don't think it will fit into you oldman's with a lift. Then go and see a specialist and get the castor correction kit done.
Good Luck
Stu
