    Question Front Under-Engine Guard Plate?

    Hi all,

I'm new on this forum and the proud new owner of a 1995 Disco 1 v8i.

I have been taking it bush bashing recently, and have been thinking about getting a guard plate fitted under the front of the engine (say from the bull bar to the steering protection bar) to stop any big sticks or whatever riding up and into the oil filter and the other 'valuables' under there.

What are your thoughts? Is this worth having?

Where do I get one? (Looked in the ARB catalog - nothing there).

    Looking forward to your opinions.

Firstly, welcome to this awesome site

As for the steering guard, you can manufacture something yourself if your that way inclined or, given the strong Aussie dollar, buy one from the UK.

But, having a bullbar is a big step as you would be able to just bolt on an alloy sheet from the bar to the steering protector.

The only thing is make sure you have holes in it to allow for air flow.

Les Richmond Automotive in Thomastown (Vic) sell a steering protector replacement that is basically made from fabricated and folded plate steel, and that sounds similar to what you're looking for. It doesn't mount to the bullbar however, instead it picks up on the existing protector mounting points on the chassis, once you've removed the factory item.
I've got one on mine and it seems a decent bit of kit. I also run an ARB bullbar. No problems (except it's supplied gold-passivate plated - yuk! So I painted mine black).

Also try Troutbeck Sales. Len doesn't have everything list on his website, but his protection plates are first class.

Troutbeck offer a bash plate guard for the D1, fits as suggested above on the original mounts, made from aluminium for around $280ish I think.

They also offer a guard, that I believe will fit the D1, and covers the front diff and rear track rod almost from wheel to wheel. Around $250ish I think from steel.

Rovacraft also offer several guards and are good to deal with: Rovacraft

my guard doesn't touch my bullbar.....as it sits back about 12" from bottom of the bullbar so techincally there is a gap anyway
