Thread: Dash Repair kit

Ok So we finally fitted the Dash repair kit that i have had sitting around for about a month....

I bought it off ebay when the dollar was up a little from the UK however the dollar is up even more since then...I paid $95 posted and a supplier here in oz wanted $150.

Now I know some of you will say I made mine out of wood, or metal or chewing gum and it was cheaper...and yes I think for what I got 90bux is expensive but I don't have the time or inclination to source another solution so this kit did me fine.

The only tools needed was a little bosch electric screw driver (it is almost 90 degree one but not quite) however we never worked this out until almost the end

So here is the dash before you can see the corner on the left is lifting





this was the worst side..as the other side was only just starting to lift. This side had lifted and was starting to curl.

This is the moulded plastic trim that you fit



It is important to remove the A pillar trim so you can get the plastic kit to fit in, you might be able to force it in without removing but I didn't want to chance cracking the plastic on the dash kit



Be careful removing the A pillar trim as the tabs snap easily. I was saying this to Ian just as he snapped one. (now got to find some glue to try and glue it back on). The A pillar trims have 3 tabs I started at the bottom working my way up.

you can then start to screw it in once all lined up.....DO NOT PUT THE SCREWS IN STRAIGHT!! this is where we went wrong!
We put all screws in straight and we were tearing our hair out as we could only get a stubby screw driver (and 90 degree bent screw driver) in to screw it down due to the curve of the windscreen. No matter how hard we tried we just couldn't get the self tapping screws all the way down to the recess in the new plastic trim kit. There wasn't enough room to apply the pressure to the stubby screw driver to enable the tapper to keep biting.

Me being me coped the arse pulled a screw out grabbed the electric screw driver (that wouldn't fit also because of the screen) and said to Ian "I have had enough its going in at an angle and hopefully it doesn't pop out the other side"
Sure enough the screws went straight in one after the other took about 2 mins to do 4 when earlier using all the other stupid little screw drivers took 10mins to do 1!.
So they all went in very easily after that and due to the plastic trim having a slight angle to it none of the screws carried on through.

You will need to remove the instrument cover just so you can get to the screws behind it, but that only takes a couple of mins to pull it off its just 2 tabs.


So anyway I'm pleased with the way it looks certainly looks nicer then the curling bit and who knows if i'm really really luck it might of stopped my dash creek...but wont know until I drive it tomorrow.

ps..where was the lit from ?

I thought it just screwed into the dash its self an figured its not a preventative but a tidy up..however since putting it on the srcews must of grabbed a little more than just the soft part of the dash as the dash no longer creeks like it did before.....although I have been known to have my music a little loud and the woofers going..so could still creek..seriously though I don't think it does. all feels fairly solid.

as for the angles of the screw FIIK....just tipped it towards me enough to get the elecy scerw driver in

oh and kit came from UK ebay....and the exchange rate was no where near as good as it it at the moment with the UK..so anyone considering doing this for a tidy up now's your time to buy
