    Fuel lift pump question

Have a 300tdi disco 1 and just put on a new fuel lift pump. She was running fine after the installation but now lacks in power. The level on the pump it's self seems loose as well when trying to prime it. Did I install it wrong?

    However...

With the extra detail, it's almost sounding like you have air/water in the system. Firstly, do the basics:

    • Empty the fuel sedimeter.
    • Change the fuel filter.

Then, I'd be tempted to double check the fuel lines and pipe joints all the way from the tank to the injector pump.

    Also... Give this a try.

Re-prime the system by operating the lever on the lift pump to see if you can reproduce the same performance you got when you fitted the new pump.

If you can get the performance (even if it's just for 30 seconds) it shows that the fuel system is where we need to be looking. If not, we might also want to check out the air supply.

Ok well I primed her up and went for a spin and there wasva little more power there but not as much as when I first fitted the new pump. Other thing I found strange when pumping with the lever I can here a faint whitsle comin from some where as if air is escaping. Will look further into it in the day light .

If You feel the lever too lose, may be the rocker shaft is depressing the lift pump diaphragm. You can turn it a little bit with the starter and test again if the lever isn't broken inside.
If the lever comes back, you can loose the connection between lift and injection pump, to test if fuel comes out.

Ah ha! That whistling sounds promising... I'm beginning to think that one of the pipes might be letting air into the system.

Try painting the joints with a water/washing up liquid solution, prime it again and see which one starts blowing bubbles!
