Water pump? radiator? thermostat? resevoir cap?

Ok here is the dilema i have a 96 v8i auto went in to have a water pump switch out and came back with a pressure issue when its driven for an extended period it blows fluid out the overfill cap it doesnt over heat persay the top hose just goes rock hard and blows back. A air pocket in the line is the talk i get back from the local rover man BUT I ask can this be an effect of a faulty water pump was NOT doing this prior to being changed? I might add it seems to do it once you come to idle ie this arvo in a KFC drive thru!!

Would love some advice and direction from land rover people in the know here thanks in advance.

i would be worried that they have run the engine dry when they changed the water pump, if this is the case, the engine over heated when they were checking for leeks and caused the heads to warp, im not saying they did but if it was fine when it went in and now its fkd btw i did a rebuild my self and it cost 6000 au just for parts and machining. (1997 3.9l) this is why no one but me will ever work on my car. whos to say it was him or not, if it was him he is not going to say it was me. the presure is caused by the combustion leaking past the head gasket into the cooling gallerys in the head. another sure sine is coolent in the oil pay, eg crack oil drian plug or pull dip stick out. sory to hear it bro, mine blew 700 km from home the oil pick up strainer came loose and sucked air insted of oil. just the tow home was 600 bucks.

btw, you may get away with just removing the heads, having them shaved and new gaskets and rocker cover gaskets, this is a big job tho. let us know how you go. i would be putting some heat on the guy who changed the pump if you are SURE it wasent fked when you brought it there. maby it was over heating before the pump ??

I had an issue with the engine side of the cooling system pressurising and a hose blowing out due to a failed thermostat which had blocked off the flow to the engine which on load I guess boiled the water in the block and exploded a hose. New thermostat, totally transformed engine

Fortunately, did not damage the engine!!

The chariot was running fine the water pump was only changed as a precaution as I was getting rocker cover gaskets changed and had the genuine pump on my desk so thought while its in ther kind of logic.

I will be applying the heat 2morro that is for sure, did a oil change and saw no discoloration or anomolies in the pan.

Is it going to be cheaper to swap it out for a low klm v8 ? than fork 6k on a rebuild? having said that guess w could always STROKE IT!!

Thanks for the replies gents appreciate the effort.

Head gasket leak into cooling system can be checked by mechanic before you get too drastic and think about engine rebuild/swap.

    Head gasket repair

so ok everyone frowns ans whispers ..."head gasket".. like its cancer.

can someone give me a price and a reputable mechainic in melbourne..thanks !

Is it cheaper to buy a new engine ??

People should understand we come attached to our cars, not engines , so it can make sense to replace the latter instead of replacing the whole thing .
    I know what I've fixed so far..dont want a new body !

4 ... Take expansion tank cap off
5 ... Located on top of the drivers side rocker cover is a pair of metal coolant tubes heading off to the cabin heater ... It has a bung ... This is where you fill with coolant ... Take the bung off and fill it up

Don't fill up any where else (expansion tank or radiator) ...
If you do, then you will suffer air locks and blowbacks all the time ... Just as you are currently experiencing

So .... do the following method ...
Fill the car with coolant ... Put the top bung back in when full .. Start car and warm it up ... Watch level through radiator bung // Stop car to do a major fill through the top bung only // Start car and continue warming ...

Keep doing this till the level of coolant is stable, just needs a little topping up .. which you can do through the radiator bung or the expansion tank

Keep filling & checking, all the time, till the car is fully warmed ... Drive it around the block .. Put it back on the ramps // cool it down, and check the level again
