    Petrol overflowing out the filler

I filled the tank in my 95 Disco V8 today to full.By the way its a Long range tank 125 litres.Drove around for about 25km and all was normal. After letting it sit for awhile i started it up and petrol poured out the filler cap while it was closed.Probably lost about a litre.I took the cap off and petrol kept leaking out like it was to full.I have noticed a bad petrol smell since it was installed a few months ago now. This is the second time i have seen it happen. What should i be looking for? Is there a pipe to vent it from the tank? Could comething be plumbed in wrong to the tank? Any help would be great.Petrol is like gold these days.I cant stand seeing it on the ground and not in the tank.
    Cheers

Hi Chris . It's the fuel expanding in the tank and forcing it's way out . All heat related .

It's happened to my uncles cruiser and that was after 20 minutes driving !

G'day Mick.If you saw how much was coming out it just didnt look or smell right. It looked like i was pouring water down the side of the car.Thats how much fuel was coming out.Shouldnt the pressure be vented out to stop that happening?
    Cheers

    Full spilling from D1 V8

I suppose one of the good things about having a TDI is that you need the patience of Jude to fill it due to all good diesel being very frothy.

nope the tanks are vac vented and pressure sealed to stop vapours from escaping to atmosphere.

there is ment to be a network of channels and high point hoses in the tank that connects to the filler neck and vents the vapors not the fuel to the neck so that when you open the tank you get fumes not fuel.

I remember on my original tank when ever i use to open the fuel cap it would have some built up pressure as you said. And it would release when i opened it.But i dont get this since the long range tank has been installed. What would make it not hold the pressure now? Cap?

    Cheers

i'm sure a vehicle leaking fuel would be considered unroadworthy as it presents such a high risk of catching on fire so there is definately something wrong with the way the breather pipes have been fitted up.

If you have a rave cd perhaps you could have a look at how it is all plumbed and see if you can id a difference.

Alternatively contact the fitter and tell them of the problem. If they are reputable they should take it back and fix it.

yep the oring type seal up on the top of the threads of the cap would be my opening guess.
