V8 sticking valves, a solution that worked for me

I recently purchased a 1994 Disco V8i auto which had had a sedentary life in Coober Pedy and a diet of poor fuel hence the varnished valves with lots of backfiring etc. It was so bad I could not go beyond second gear on any hills. I started using Ethanol fuel mainly because it was cheaper and had a higher octane rating and noticed a slight improvement in performance. After a much needed oil change I added 500mls of ROIL, a Newways product, to the oil, something I have always done with older vehicles to enhance the running and offer some engine protection. After about 150 kms the backfiring stopped and I can now get up most hills in drive which previously was impossible. I do not know which product is responsible, maybe a combination of both, but I do know I have avoided a "heads off" scenario to fix the problem. I hasten to add I am not a Newways agent. I have two discos now the other is a 1993 Tdi which has been amazing, now up to 300,000 kms. Cheers, jackp46

Red X will also do a similiar job if it is still available. Problem is often caused by a build up of carbon.

removing the air filter and using a water mister to spray water into the intake of the engine once its warmed up and sitting on high idle will also occasionally work.
