d2 rear fold up seats (7 seater) into D1

ive always been interested in getting the extra 2 seats for my d1 discovery (3rd row), however im not particularly too keen on side facing seats, does anyone know... or has anyone ever installed the rear fold up D2 seats into a D1 discovery, and if so, is it just a matter of getting all of the fittings from the D2 or what exactly?

I doubt you could do this EASILY! and I have never seen it done.

The D2 load space seats are bigger than the D1 seats, so I doubt they would fit very well into the back of the D1 facing forward.

There would be nowhere to fold the seats into when not in use, so your load space would be reduced.

The mounting points are completly different bewteen the two seats.
I believe the D2 seats mount into the floor when in use, and mount to the side differently.

Who knows what licensing problems you'd have?

Lots of negatives I know but if you really wanted to do it, I'm sure you COULD! I would just expect it to be difficult.

    Hi Guys,

SWMBO and I were in a car yard recently (half thinking of upgrading) and she commented on some D2 style 3rd row seats and asked "if we could do that to ours?" Ours being a 96 D1.

Anyone ever researched it or even given it a go?

Hazarding that cleats in the floor will need to be welded in as will a different support on the sides and all the rear area trim pieces will have to be modified.

I'm told the rego side of things (I'm in Tassie) is doable via transport inspection, but will be researching this myself.

    Thanks in Advance.

There is not enough room in a D1 boot to fit D2 rear seats and even if there was you wont legally be able to without having it engineered as they wont be using the already installed mounts. And have you priced the D2 rear seats, if you think the D1 seats are expensive you are in for a shock.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for that, hadn't put to much thought into it as yet, or even priced anything, just seeing if someone had given it a go.

When you say not enough room, is the D1 cargo area smaller than a D2? In what way do you mean not enough room? I thought the D2 was wider, not longer than the D1?

Here are a couple of measurements to hopefully assist

With the seat folded against the side wall 300mm deep
Between the seats with both folded down into sitting position 200mm
From the side wall to the outside of the seat in sitting position 640mm
Front of 3rd row seat to back of 2nd row 300mm
Seat folded down & locked to floor with back rest folded down 300mm high to floor
Boot space in total 1000mm x 1530mm at the widest points

There is also a cup holder for each seat between the base & sidewall trim. The mounting points in the floor are rock solid, but I am not sure how they are held in.

You may also need to install the fold down headrest to ensure that it complies. Oh, and dont forget the seatbelts. They are inertia reels.

D2 rear is deeper but width is about the same , i would like the rear side seats but most sellers think they are made of gold.
