Have a look at this, particularly the bottom.
    http://apps.bosch.com.au/products/sa...tion_coils.pdf

GT 40 is a 12volt coil, ie no resistor or resistance wire .

GT 40R is a 7 volt coil to be used without resistor on starting then resistor on running.

    Plenty .......

I am Highly surprised that the new vacuum unit made no difference (at all??)
Did you suck on the new unit at all?? .... Did you test that you hooked it up properly??? ... Sucked on the black hose and actually saw that Dizzy plate move??

I've listed out the items that affect the running of your motor .... As sort of "food for thought" .....

When you have it on gas

It uses the Dizzy / Rotor / Vacuum advance / Ignition module / Coil / Spark leads / and the Spark plugs to work properly.....

Your saying it runs great on GAS

BUT When you have it on petrol

It uses all of the above + TPS / MAF / ECU / Fuel pump / fuel filter / Fuel Pressure regulator / Fuel injectors

Your saying it runs like a Dog .....

Couple of back ground things tho ....
    Does it Idle OK ???
Does it start up OK?? ... first up in the morning (fires straight up)
Have you put a Timing light on it?? ....
When was the last time you washed down the engine bay with water??

Mate, as it runs fine on gas, I'd say your ignition system is fine. I'd be more inclined to be looking at the injectors.
Also check fuel rail pressure to confirm fuel pressure regulator is OK. Fuel rail pressure should be around 32 to 34 PSI from memory.
    Good luck!

how do i test the feul rails? for pressure???? where do i look etc

as the new advance works a treat sux on it and it idles highyer etc so i know that is now working

You need to check the TPS first .....
That is why I'm asking you Questions such as ....

Mat, being so close to Xmas you have to be very careful of the Kowabunga valve. It could very well be Kaput....Lookout.

    Cheers
