Is there any kits for cams in Aus that don't have $175 postage costs. Seems a bit extreme when paying only $600 for the kit?
is the manual gearbox transfer cases the same as the auto's. Just thinking ahead if I find a manual defender!

Yes, all Defender transfer cases( LT230) will fit any auto or manual disco trans.
The Cam kits locally are a little cheaper, but Piper have been making Rover V8 specific cams for ages and are pretty good apparently. Also try Heatseeker, Crane and Crow. They all have listings for 3.9 V8 .
Personally, I'd go new EFI standard grind, port match everything, valve job, tin shim head gaskets and shave a little off the heads for a bit more compression.
And lower the gearing, but don't expect miracles

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
I was looking at taking my Transfer case out and seeing if i could get a lower ratio High range set.
I have a 3.9 '95, with 265/70 R16 tyres and seem to be doing excatly 2000 RPM at 100Km/h in 5th. It just feels like the gearing was made for the Diesel engine and smaller tyres. Although my speed is correct.
It is Awesome if the LT230 transfer case can just bolt and lift the revs while in High range. Being Manual should i expect to have a 3-400 rpm increse? (I was orginal thinking of looking for 4-500, but i am not fussy), is there any thing else i should know about? like does all the other bolts line up or drive shaft changes?
When I get the transfer case does it inclued the drive shaft flanges? (that you would undo to drop out the shafts)
Thank you for this!
Any help very much apprecated.
Kind regards
Nigel
Nigel,
It is a direct drop in, no mods required. All the linkages and shaft flanges are the same. You already have an LT230, but of a higher ratio. The Defender runs an LT230 with a 1.410:1 high range, low range in both transfer cases is the same.
It is a very quick way to correct taller tyre issues with Discos and Rangies for on road use.

You have a small engine humping around a two ton car. It is never going to be economical. The poor little thing is working its rings out. Justin is on the right track. Best you can do is have everything working right. It is an auto, so is it getting up on the cam or stalling out against the converter before it reaches the power band? If so, a different cam giving a lower rpm power band or a looser converter (higher stall) may be a solution, other than a decent sized engine. High stall converters can be a PIA in everyday driving. Just do the economics first. Will it be cheaper to keep paying the fuel bill rather than spending possibly a couple of gorillas on the engine?

K. Anyone know where I can pick up a cheap defender for a donor vehicle. Is the diesel and petrol transfer cases the same ratio's????
Thanks
