the time i did the cv and axle in the 90, that was the track but we were not even close to that rock cutting.

could this acutally fix alot of the problems with the disco?
Matthew .... ALL cars suffer sooner or later with blocked radiator cores .... Tiss the nature of the beast

ALL cars should have their radiators removed every 5 years, and have their cores rodded
Also .... ALL cars need to have the externals of the radiators cleaned of bugs blocking the airflow thru the radiator ..... Especially after doing mud runs

To clean the external airflow of your Disco ... You have to undo the side retaining bolts of the radiator .. carefully push the radiator back, remove the top rubber seal, and push a water hose between the gap of the rad and the front cowling .... Have a look at all the bugs and junk being washed to the ground

You can't run the hose thru the front grill to wash .... as the Aircon rad is in the way, BUT you need to wash the bugs & junk off it also, Do this by removing the front grill

IN short, Yes, Remove the radiator and get it cleaned & rodded by a radiator repair centre

IT doesn't matter what brand of car you own ..... you will have to do this regardless of what brand it is ......

    It is standard maintanenance

I see that the Patrol has 15" rims with much taller sidewall tyres, So not quite stock, and your Disco is the stock as a rock version

Now onto your ride height and flex

I recon YOU could benefit from a set of 2" Dobinson's springs and it will transform your ride (with a different tyre choice) into the killer machine that you desire

But, personally, that car should have stepped up OK ....

By the way .... How much tread is actually left on those tyres??? and what was your tyre pressure set at??

no that looks like the climb we did when boxehead (Rob) went up.....dug a hole as it was a fair climb, I went up fell in his hole and then josh came up behind me and said I made a meal of it...

I remember the rock face off to the right in that pic like a wall all the way up next to it...I'm positive I have been up that bit

I just had my radiator rodded. To remove it you:
Take the clip on top part of the plastic cowling off.
Remove the rest of the cowling and lay it back over the fan.
Remove the radiator hoses from the radiator and let it drain.
Once drained remove the oil lines and then plug/cover them up on both the hose and the radiator end.
    Undo the two top brackets.
Pull the radiator up and out.

    Takes about 10 minutes.

Cost me $110 to get it rodded. Was told it was 15-20% blocked.

Refitting it took longer as I replaced the hoses and tested the thermostat.

Haven't taken it for a proper test run yet as I only refitted it yesterday. Mine only got hot once on a mega hot day towing the camper trailer up hills.

If you actually blew the radiator hose off the fitting then are you sure you don't have a blown headgasket? Something is quite wrong there.

You have to cut your guards to fit 31s so if they are 32s you have would have mangled the rear guard pretty good.

Another thing is that if yours has stock suspension then it is probably sagged to buggery and much lower than standard. About $300 will sort that problem.

Your Disco sounds like in needs a bucket load of TLC. Not much point bagging LR out as it appears to be a pretty poor example of the breed. Although the list of bits you replaced seems pretty standard for any car other than the axle housing.

cheers for that i was quoted 99 bucks here in dandy to pull tanks apart clean it out,

on closer inspection the top radiator hose wasn't in good condition as i first thought it had streached and thined out

iv replace most of the cooling system apart from the raidator
after the radiators done i with throw some cemi-weld throught it to clean up any extra smal hole or anyhting else that could be wrong

then i will wrorrie about the gear box

If you are going to have your radiator cleaned out I'd do the chemiweld thing first. That way it will do its thing inside the motor and anything that gets stuck in the radiator will be getting cleaned out anyway.

We didn't make it that far on that night trip Lou. There is a similar, shorter one earlier on - that would have been the one.
