Your running 16" rims??

and the patrol has 15" rims ... and it has more sidewall height than yours, which is handy for lower tyre pressure and tyre flexing ...giving it more tyre contact with rock face surface

Just remember to put the right coolant back in and fill it up the correct way ... there is a thread in the "Good Oil" section .... read it carefully (don't just fill it up) ... ask if your not sure

Some folks put a rubber glove over the dizzy (there are a few pictures of it on this site) .... some just layer on spray grease /// How much water are you talking about???


Chemi weld solves nothing ... I think your jumping the gun, in thinking that it is a good idea to use it ..... I WOULDN'T .... :(

Personaly tho .... If this is the first time this ride has been off the road for a while, chances are that all that new bouncing around on the tracks, has freed up debris off the inside of the block, Sent it all to a partially blocked radiator, and that is why the radiator is suddenly playing up

OR you forgot to mention about any water / mud holes that you went through

Because the radiator is a cross flow type, gravity causes sediment to drop out of suspension in the horizontal tubes. The sediment blocks the tubes and can only be effectively cleaned by removing the tanks and rodding out.

For our conditions, the radiator size is only marginal at best.

reading the oils thread sujest a red colour base anti frezz would that be the same as what written in the hand book???

ethylene glycol based anti frezz containg no metho with no phosphate corrosion inhibitors??


as for replacing the radiator for somthing bigger i cant see my self wasiting that kinda money considering ebay sell the standard radators for around 600 and for wheel drive on middlebourght road sell them at 1200


as for filling it up i just do it the way i did it last time filll it all up rase the front put the cap on the over flow tank and take out that crappy plastic bung start car let it run get all air bubble out fill up if need and put plastic bung back on done :)

I got a "heavy duty 3 core high efficiency" purpose built, for 600 smackers here in Perth .....

I'ld look else where's at your prices ......


Can't comment on the coolant to use .... Rather someone else "pipe up" with some reasonable priced brand names for you to use

oh i see i think i payed maybe 360 for a 3 core on the old GQ

i was just reading up on the coolants in the hand book and the oils threads after new years i'll read some more got the handbrake barking at me to go out and take the boys

I'd get the overheating sorted before going off road. Blowing a hose off sounds a little unusual for a car with an expansion thank! Overheating will kill any aspirations of going 4 wheeling as your motor will be toast.

Does it overheat on petrol or only on gas? There are people here with experience on gas vehicles so they might be able to help you with some pointers in the gas tuning department.

Whatever you do, do not mix the 2 different types of coolant.

Also those plastic bungs were a very bad Land Rover idea. I would replace it with a brass unit at your earliest convenience.

well when i was 4x4 i only ran petty, every time i did a track id turn off the car let it cool before the next part

going up hill in petty or gas got warm more so around gosford and wollengong, <keeping in mind the old boys 5.2L diesel v8 also warmed up on the hills>

and at 110-120 freeway cruising she got slighly warm on the way home

not yesterday but day before i ran into clayton here in vic and the temp and pressure sore the water flood out of the over fill bottle with the cap still on mind you it was between 30- 40 degrees

i will pull the radiator out clean everything good as i can

driving yesterday and this morning was good didnt over heat once seen as it was alot cooler and raining so sujest to me that its junks up


i used a nulon dark green bottle infact i use 2 bottle for 11Ls

Sounds definately like your car is toast by now.
Its a tad hard to read some of your posts, not sure if its just me but some words are just wrong and can give wrong meaning. Difficult to understand thats all.
You say you do all your own maintenance but the most basic and possibly most important to any vehicle has been overlooked.
The cooling system function is paramount not just in these vehicles but all.
Doing 110-120km/h on a hot day or when you know its potentially overheating is another thing I can't understand.

Stop comparing the 2 vehicles, one you had for a while and had time to sort its issues out the other you have thus far got No idea about and understandably are trying, full marks there but do it right.

My Disco, actually all 9 of my last Landies all have and still do out-perform most Patrols and Toyotas. Thats what Landies are built for and known for.

If you were handed a Sniper Rifle, do you think you could land a shot at 2 miles?
Everything takes time and getting accustomed to, same with a new car.

So do us all a favour and qualify your comments and be reasonable.
