My RRC with Disco 3.9 and LT77 gearbox manages about 450 ish km to a tank... Open road cruise...

The old 3.5 used to do 500 km quite easily.

What are you getting for each fuel type?
For long trips, I get approx 380-400 per tank of petrol,, sticking to the speed limit of 110 on cruise,, use about 70-75ltrs,,,(the best I've ever done was about 450k's, not going over 100, and the light was on )
Around town, I'm flatout getting 320-350 from 70-75ltrs,, ,, mind you,,, I like my V8,,

long range run maintaining 100-110km/h gets me just under 10l/100km.

After a recent trip to the Murray, i put in 64 litres for 670kms and that was with the first 1/4 tank spent around town!

    Diesels...

The Holden will have better aerodynamics than any LR product. With the newer vehicles you get pretty similar fuel economy V6 or V8 on a highway run.

so what you're saying is, you should put a 5.7L in your Landy?

It would probably get better economy...

A large engine hardly working will get better economy than a small engine working hard.

My D1 3.9 would give 550km from full to orange light - cruising at 110kph and A/c on - around town - 500 if I was lucky. With the D1 - consumption really depends how you drive. Flog it and it will give poor consumption - easy driving will give OK consumption.
