the belt was dont at 184thou so only 16k ago. Which shows the garage indeed did fit one. But they did not start the engine with front covers off and watch the belt, they just slapped it together and grabbed their payment. Gordon, being fussy like he is runs the engine for 10 mins with casings off and watches the belt . he said you could clearly see it walking itself off straight away due to the slop in the shaft injector pump (even with the flanged pulley update kit) so this will now cost me a new pump or rebuild but he has saved me having to go back and get it done again. he wanted to find out WHY the belt chewed itself out not just put a new one on...... as for my opinion of gordon. good. i mean ha may not be the cheapest, but he isnt the dearest either. but he hasnt got all the awards for excellence throughout his whole career on his office walls for nothing. He really does know his stuff. i try and do most work myself but some things like this just have to be done right and i can trust he will do them to top quality.
so basically now i gotta hunt around for injector pump and go from there....:thumbsdown:

Yeah, I agree about the belt JC, and wasn't ready to give them a full caning yet. We were going to ring them to let them know.

However there have been numerous other items that just were unsatisfactory for a car with a full service history.

- Gearbox was full of gunk and oil was black even though it was changed 15,000kms ago
- Bolts on water pump and P Gasket completely rounded, had to be cut off.
- Diff oils in same condition as gearbox even though they were changed twice in 5000kms

hi guys, yeh if it was just this isolated incident i certainly wouldnt be pointing a finger as its a car, things break/wear and thats part of owning one. but as stu said there are NUMEROUS things on car that are printed in service history that have clearly not been done and neglected.
so yeh i mean people are entightled to their own opinion but going by what i have found since i bought it and the records i am comfortable to say i have no confidence in the garage at all, but that's just my opinion and im sure others may disagree as they may have had a different experience...
phoned them up and spoke to them about issue, basically was told that they dont believe they did it wrong and that i should have brought the vehicle to them so they can fix it... slightly hard to do at 10:30 at night when they are 2 hours away and i had to work 6am next day.
main thing is the problem is fixed now and she is back on the road, new timing belt kit, injector pump, crankshaft seal, rocker cover off to inspect damge, re adjust tappets to spec, etc. i like to do as much work on her that i possibly can... but if i need to get something fixed that i can not do i will be taking it back to gordon.. i actually expected it to be more expensive than it was and am happy with his work.
Also i think its time to post a few pics of the disco as i have owned her for going on 6 months i guess and havnt done so yet...
and hopefully now with the things i have fixed up that were missed previously and the new timing belt etc nothing will go wrong for a while.... hopefully :p

Good to hear it is back on the road, and yes sounds like you have found someone who you should get to work on your Disco exclusively from now on. Hope you get many miles of enjoyment from now on:)
