Just purchased Disco 1
Evening all.
First off I'd like to thank each and every contributer to this forum for your help in highlighting what to look for when purchasing a Series 1 Discovery.
After spending a month of browsing through this forum and absorbing all the information I could and taking a number of Discos for a test drive, I've finally purchased a 96 V8i Auto for use as a dedicated towing vehicle....and potential off-roader at a later date.
I picked up my purchase last night and will be using it tomorrow for it's first towing excursion - it's primary purchase reason is to replace my 2004 X-Trail as a tow vehicle for my rally car.
The Disco has a total of 230,000km on the clock and set me back a grand total of $4500 with RWC.
While I'm handy with the tools I'd like to get the vehicle checked out by someone who knows them to see if there's anything that will need attention before I take on the service/mechanic duties. On this note, who would be the closest Land Rover workshop/specialist to Pakenham that people would recommend using?
Thanks in advance.

Theres AMV in Ringwood. AMV - The Economic Alternative for the Melbourne Landrover & Rover 4wd Community . Only bought parts there but they are also a wealth of infromation.
In Pakenham I have Andrew at tyres and more servce mine but he only does what I tell him needs doing. They dont know much about them. Behind Velocity fuel there ia mechanic next to the gym who used to own a series 1 himself as well.

Cheers Dave.
I'll get in touch with AMV and see what they say about going over the Disco for me. After that I'll most likely look after it's needs myself, but it's always handy to know who's close by.

Here's a couple of pictures taken yesterday morning before heading off.
I must say it pulls a lot better (as expected) than my 2004 X-Trail (in background), so I've very happy with the purchase. I need to tweak my trailer load a little to suit the Disco but very impressed with the way it drives.
