    Hi guys,
so you appear to get good flexibility out of the rear, and in extreme cases pop the springs out.
To achieve this, what brand or type of shocks do you use, and are you also extending the bump stops to reduce upwards travel?
Is there a shock out there that offers the best of both worlds - longer donward travel with standard compressed lenght?
    cheers
    Greg

You will find that you will have to extend your top shock mounts to get large amounts of travel, if you use the standard mounts with super long shocks you will have very limited compression and to avoid stuffing your shocks, you would have to fit long bumpstops.

For long travel shocks Pro-comp seem to be the cheapest option, and are a pretty good sock for the price

I did a lot of research into this issue I wanted to get as much flex as possible without having to go to town with modifying all my suspension components. I ended up being able to buy off the shelf shocks and springs to suit my needs without having to modify any of the suspension, including bump stops. Here is a couple of shots that show my flex with just spring and shock change. I believe I could still get better front end flex with different bushes, but I will tackle that one when the originals wear out.

So what springs and shocks did you use?
And will it be different between a V8 and a TDI?

Mine's a V8 and I used LRA springs - front orange 180 lbs 17", rear white/green 270 lbs 17.8". I used Bluemax foamcell shocks which I can't find my information on ATM, but the fronts were 80 series front shocks and the rear were what were recommended for D1 2" lift (I think they were also for a GQ coil cab ute rear). I have a lot of accessories fitted including - twin LPG tanks, 2 long range tanks, full drawer system in the rear with tools, recovery gear and fridge, HD steel side steps, winch bar, roof rack etc. I also have polyair bags in the rear springs, so the spring rates for my vehicle were calculated for the extra weight and still give me a 2-2.5" lift, so these would obviously differ for different vehicles. I have found my minimum closed shock lengths without modifying bump stops, and they are 360mm front and 375mm rear.
Edit: Just found the info on the shocks that I was looking for. Front - SA41683FC - closed length 360mm, open length 607mm. Rear - SA41648FC - closed length 377mm, open length 632mm. On paper these shocks can give me an extra 59mm travel at the front corners and an extra 79mm at the rear. I also needed to fit extended brake lines to allow for the extra travel, even though I still only have a 2" lift. To avoid having the springs dislocate on full travel, the free length needs to be atleast 430mm for the front and about 465 in the rear. Hope this helps.
