I had one airflow meter (my spare) that when I put it in it would cause the engine to fluctuate and stall when I took my foot off the revs. I gave the hot wires inside a good blast of contact cleaner and set it up as per "LOVEMYRANGIE" proceedure and works a treat. Give it a go. I'll find the link if you haven't seen it.

I cleaned the wires in mine to but the MAF was R.S
unplugged the maf and took it for a spin, under heavy throttle it seemed a slight bit better thru 2800 to 3500 with not too much of a miss, plug it back in and it would miss quite a bit with a lack of power thru 2800 to 3300.
Would the MAF have an effect on starting?

Give the MAF a clean & try the settings on the above link,
If you look into the MAF you will see a small hole to the side of it,
You should be able to see the wires, give them a spray with MAF cleaner
Right i have done all the setting reqiured, the TPS was reading 0.12 so i elongated holes and adjusted to 0.35 near the settings in the specs provided by RoverV8.
Then onto the MAF, when trying to adjust the voltage i had 0.40volts, i turned the screw and whatever way i did it the reading never changed, so it sounds as if the MAF is ****ed??
Priced one up and got a nice shock $700, and then i have to get it set up on a gas machine to get correct mixture:(
Has anybody got asecondhand one they want to part with ? not sure i want to spend $700 on rco'd one.
I got mine off E-bay but as I said in an earlier post it did not run correctly. Lucky a clean and tune seemed to sort it out. So be aware of second hand ones. Make sure they are working first or you might be buying another dud. As said ealier see if someone near you can let you test one in your car. Or try wreckers that will give a return policey if no good. The are a very delicate piece of gear. Back firing on gas is good for stuffing them. I heard somewhere that the MAF is not used on gas so converting could save buying one. Someone with have to confirm though.

Gas on a D1 doesn't need the MAF to function but the petrol does! One guy I converted a BMW for told me to take the MAF out, put it in a bag in the boot, he would put it back in if he ever needed petrol again:o. In the case of the car in question here so long as it runs on petrol as far as the next servo you might get away with it... And the gov't rebate is still $1750.Quote:

I have decided to book it in the graeme coopers in sydney on wednesday, they will check it out, got a MAF for $610 fitted and set up if thats whats needed, but they will check it 1st on the machine.
Will keep you posted on diagnosis.
