    Altenator packing it in??

Ok, at night time the charge light is just faintly showing on. certainly not bright enough to see during the day.

What are the possible causes?? Dead altenator, dead battery, dodgy cable on the altenator?

    it's a late 93 build D1

What the globe is showing is the voltage drop from the alternator to the ignition circuit where the other side of the globe is connected. I suggest looking at the alternator output terminal, (fat brown wire) dismantle, clean, tighten. This wire feeds the rest of the car when the alternator is going, any dirty connections between the alternator and the fuse box will show a voltage drop and possibly melting of plastic around the fault.

pull it apart and put new brushes in it should fix the problem.
and if your real keen you could put new berings in it to ther about $20 for the berings done mine the otherday but some soldering skills are needed to fully pull it apart for bering replacment but brushes ar much easyer.
