    ARB Locker Oil Line Leak

Yesterday after I picked up the D1 from getting some secondhand Baja Claws fitted I thought I'd see how they went in a big wash out down the bottom paddock.

Anyway as I was trying to get up the side of the wash out and trying to pop the front wheels over the ledge it became obvious that it wasn't gong as easy as I hoped so I engaged both the rear and front diff locks.

To my surprize the front of the Disco dissapeared in a cloud of white smoke from under the bonnet when I engaged the front locker, I quickly turned it of and the smoke stopped. On inspection after I got out of the wash out I found a small gage green plastic hose had split and was spewing out oil.

My question is, is this oil from the diff and if yes have I just emptied the front diff of oil?

As it hasn't stopped raining here I have not had a chance to check things out as the Disco lives outside so any advice about what it is would be appreciated.

    cheers,
    Terry

If an "O" ring in the locker leaks it can cause oil to be drawn up the air line, which is usually spat out at the solenoid on the compressor, in your case it has been spat out the leak in the air line onto something hot, repair the air line and check the oil level in the diff, Regards Frank.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Tank.

The locker was on for about 15 to 20 seconds, in general would that be enough time to drain / pump the oil out of the diff?

And yes it did squirt on to something hot in this case the headers.

    cheers,
    Terry

It shold not have drained the diff, there is about 1.7 litres of oil in there and that would be enough to cover the whole car, drop the level plug out, if you're worried and stick your finger in and check, also as Jono, above suggested, check the breather isn't blocked, Regards Frank.

Thanks guys I checked the oil level and it was fine. In fact I was being lazy I didn't want to go out and crawl under the car in the soaking rain to have to check.

Anyway since then I have dropped the old girl off up in Sydney at Peter Davis place for a major service and will get him to replace any air lines, belts etc that need replacing.

I drove up there last night in terrential rain and I would have to say driving a D1 that is about 4 inches higher then standard from body and suspension mods plus with newly fitted 33" Baja Claws on it for the first time was interesting in those conditions.

The previous 33" All Terrains were like driving on performance street tyres in comparision.

    cheers,
    Terry
