    Another alternator question

    Hey guys, I have a 94 Disco, and on my first trip bush the alternator packed it in, on te first night just as I got to the campgroung (BUGGER)
    I dismantled it and checked everything the brushes are worn but still servicable, However the tacho died at the same time.
    Does the alternator drive the tacho and is the diode on the alternator replaceable or do I need a whole new alternator??
    Can buy a new one frm the UK for about $200 or a spare parts one or about $160.00, Can I get mine repaired?

    Is your engine a 300Tdi or 200Tdi? IE one main fan belt or several smaller ones?
    Tacho runs off the 'W' terminal on the back of the alternator.
    The 300Tdi alternators are a lot more $$$ but are 100AMP. Yes EX UK they can be cheaper for sure, the only problem exists when a warranty claim is required

    Thanks JC, Mine is a V8I, do you tink I can repair it or bin it, Also when I pulled it apart I only found one brush, Is this normal?

    Ah, but the same still applies as this was the change over year from Non serpentine to serpentine belt engines. Huge changes. Does yours have one long fan belt, 7 ribs? If so, then that price is way off the mark, as the 120AMP V8 alternators are closer to $450 locally, new.

    I MAY have a good used one, but I'll have to take a look on Monday. Give me a call on 0408 995 635 Monday morning after 0830.
