same as all cooling systems.....
park it so the filler is the high point, in nuetral at high idle and up end a 2l coke bottle full of coolant into the filler neck and turn the heater controls on flat out.
Okay Guys & Gals
Just finished replacing all my hoses, water pump, P gasket, belt tensioner and drive belt on my 300tdi D1. Only to find now (after following the Rave CD method) that I've still got an airlock in the cooling system because I can hear sloshing coming from the heater core.
Please tell me, what is the best way to purge the air out of a 300tdi cooling system.
Regards
Goldey

300Tdi D1's are pretty hard to get the heater air lock out of sometimes. I have had to drive up and down and around and around a hilly, twisty section of local road in order to bleed them out before now

Thanks guys
I took it for a drive and left it parked nose up (about a 15 deg angle) in the driveway overnight with the coolant tank cap off and the thermostat brass plug unwound in the vain hope that the air bubbles will work their own way out overnight (wishfull thinking perhaps).
I'll try lifting the coolant tank up, with a fast idle and heater on full tomorrow, although I didn't think the heater being on was that important, because the heater matrix is always in the system isn't it (ie no heater valve or switch)??

Certainly, heater is always in the system, I think what Dave meant was that you know it is bled out when the heater blows hot air.

If the reservoir level is good, then, with removed thermostat housing plug, you can turn on the engine and screw the plug when water is reaching the upper surface.
The water pump is then free from bubbles, and the pressure it produces by turning shall blow water trough the heater.
If not, i´m afraid it can be clogged. You can check this by running water trough the heater: it is easy to follow and find both hose ends approx over the water pump.
Good luck and regards
I don't know if it's the same as the 3.9 but I had to pull the inlet and out let tho the heater core off and ran the hose through until no air came out then made sure the hoses were full and put back on.
Cheers, David.
