    insulation under the bonnet?

the insulation under the bonnet of my disco has suffered a bit of water damage in the past (from last owner). it is starting to sag. is there any real reason it should be there? other than making it quieter?

......and stopping bonnet from becoming a BBQ plate. That aside with some mods to fixings a D2 bonnet liner will fit a D1.

I fixed a few saggy spots very successfully using sikaflex.

If the sag is a bit more widespread and you want to replace it I seem to recall a thread on here somewhere that gives a mercedes model that has a compatible version. You might be able to pick one up from a wreckers?

A new genuine replacement for the bonnet blanket is about $130 - I replaced mine a few months ago because it was beyond sikaflex repair stage (drooping onto inlet plenum which made my engine even hotter than normal). But if its not too far gone I'd give the sikaflex/silastic a go.

Call up your local Merc dealer and ask for the price of this code 1266820026 I have no idea what Merc this is from but my local Rover workshop fit a lot of them as replacements.

It's a near perfect fit for the Series 300 Disco and is much nicer than the Rover one.... price was very good too. UAE price might vary from Oz but I was very happy.

removed mine a few months ago...seems to be OK ....l know one thing tho...the bonnet is no where near as hot with it off as it was with it on .....which is helping the heat thing we all have issues with .....not too sure how long ill get before it will damage the paint ..but at least it wont be the engine .....

    cheers

I'll take some pictures tonight and post them tomorrow. I'm at work right now and bought the Mazda in for a change.

The Merc one needs a very small amount of trimming with a stanley knife and a few lengths of quality double sided tape. It also used the same fixing studs as the original Rover item so naturally I'm very pleased with the results.

    See you tomorrow.

Here's what I fitted under the bonnet of my Discovery. It cost about 20 quid compared to the new morgage that Land Rover wanted for their item.

I used a small amount of impact adhesive in places but in general it used the same press in plastic fasteners as the original.
It's made from a foam type material that doesn't disintergrate or fall apart like the rover one when it comes into contact with something.

    Hope this helps.

You can buy stick on stuff which I found better than the RRC stuff at any decent parts store for about $80-100. There are also ads in just about every magazine for it.
