    Gearing and halfshafts question

    Hello everyone.
I have a td5 manual,i 'm running different sets of tyres,32's MT's for off -road and originals for long trips (will be replaced with 32's AT's).
Not so bad - from gearing point of view - with the bigger rubber,in fact i like the taller gearing, drops the revs (and noise) in 5th but off-road i'll have to use 1st!! low frequently.
So i got a set of these .
So here's the question, with these gears and bigger tyres do i have to go HD shafts (because of the extra stress)?
Financials don't allow lockers and h/shafts at the moment, to gear or not then
    Any suggestion is wellcome.
    PS
Thats 3.9 ratio i got from a friend - couldn't resist the price..

If you plan to get lockers, then it will be a lot more economical to do that with the ratio change at the same time rather than rebuilding the diff for gears and then pulling it all out again for lockers.

As long as you don't go stupid, the standard axles will work - they just wont be bullet proof. Note also that the diff centre may also break which has the potential to damage your new diff gears.
    Cheers

    I'll back slunnie...

if you are doing a repair and have enough money to do one out of two potential upgrades you do the one that is best achieved with the repair work. As you have to pull the diff center to change the CWP then it makes sense to change the center while its out getting the wheel bolted up to it.

Changing halfsafts, providing they arent snapped is all of a 20 minute job.
