    TD5 idle adjustment

    anyone know how to adjust up the idle on a TD5 ?
    if i can bring the revs at idel up about 50 or so it seems to not shake around anywhere near as much. i might be able to live with my new engine mounts if i can do that, but cant see or find anywhere anything in relation to it.

    otherwise its $500 down the tube and i need to go get some genuine mounts and spend another 3 or 4 hours on labour charge.

    Rosscoe .. .sorry, can't help you with the idle adjust (but I too would like to know the answer to this one).

    ... that flexi-joint in the downpipe they said you should replace ... AFTER your engine mounts ... sure that's not the vibration/harshness culprit ??

    Have read on AULRO numerous times about vibration issues only to see the fix ended up (after much other expense) being the flexi-joint collapsing and hanging at full extension ... transmitting much more vibration than usual.

    yeah, i guess thats possible. it does feel like a car that has the exhaust pipe mounted solid to the body instead of through rubber mounts.
    now the engine is sitting up about 20 mm higher i guess the flex pipe might be tight extended, will check that, thanks for the feedback.
    my feeling is its not that, its just the aftermarket engine mounts i have used are a lot tighter in the rubber than the genuine. My mistake, i used to work in spare parts and know better, and usually only buy genuine parts like this, but i didn't even think to ask if they were genuine, just assumed they would be and that noone would have made and aftermarket mount for an unusual mount like these.

    Short answer - No

    Idle is hard programmed into the ECU, it will attempt to always remain constant.

    Raising rpm to mask a problem certainly wont help, as raising rpm has moved your ECU off its idle mapping onto the lower end of the low speed map. This is fuelled different etc...

    thx tombie, thats was what i expected.
    seems to idle reasonably smooth when i turn on aircon and it lifts revs by about 50 rpm. but on normal idle shakes like crazy. i guess i need to investigate why the engine is so harsh rather than try and get softer mounts.
    it has new wiring loom, new afm, upgraded ECU by Tombie, Upgraded Intercooler and silicon hoses. 3" exhaust. should be a nice truck, but it isnt now

    What's the status of the egr valve? It might not be fully closed due to carbon build-up. Maybe an injector isn't quite right or just the IAT or MAP sensor is filthy.

    I verified that mine's vibration was the bellows-type flex joint by lifting the pipe below the bellows with my hands with the engine idling, and the vibration stopped.

    Try loosening all mounts and go for a drive around the block then tighten them all up. If the mounts may be strained on the rear with the new front mounts fitted, this will allow everything to settle into its best position. Maybe this will help.
    My undertstanding is that LR mounts are fluid filled and your non genuines may not be. I agree with other posts re your flex joint.

    egr is gone, new maf sensor, injector is a maybe cos it uses more fuel than i would like. IAT i have never looked at, not even sure what effect it would have if it was faulty ?
    so if its the flex joint, if i drop all the exhaust pipe hangers bar the very rear one it should get rid of the vibration tansmission to the body. i will try that tomorrow.

    Engine mounts will be the problem I'd say, my mechanic reckons the mounts will cause a lot of vibration if they are shot.

    If your Disco has more than 180,000ks it's probably worth doing them, we will be replacing ours very soon.

    yes sorry, i have just changed the engine mounts but ended up with aftermarket ones and they are very firm and rough. i was looking at the reason the engine is so rough at idle, buts looks like i have nailed it to the non genuine mounts. refer to this thread. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ne-mounts.html
