2004 td5 - occasional smell of diesel
My 2004 td5 (Disco II) occasionally smells of diesel, seems to come from the engine bay area and I usually notice it after a trip and engine has just been switched off.
No evidence of any leak - any thoughts?

Check the fuel pressure reg. Its right down the back on the RH side of the head behind #5 intake runner.
You will see a couple of steel fuel lines and a sensor plug. Most likely leaking.
Do a search on here for it too. Will dig up heaps of info in "The Good Oil"
Cheers

Are you getting oily spots on your back window ? When my reg, started leaking that was the first thing I noticed. Than a small puddle under the gear box.

Look underneath at the starter motor (drivers side) if its wet at all, your FPR is leaking.

Just a quick update - its a long time coming I know. Based on your feedback, I took a better look underneath and realised that what I had assumed was an oil leak was in fact a diesel leak. Its just been in for the 120k service and they replaced the FPR at the same time.
So thanks all.
